Multiculturalism Observing & Documenting the Learning and Care of Toddlers

Participants will explore how approaches in ECE pedagogy and practice have shifted, through examining case studies with a focus on internationalism and multiculturalism. Communities in Vancouver are becoming increasingly culturally, and linguistically diverse and multicultural encounters are common in most ECE settings. We will look into the case studies to shed some light on contemporary issues and share tools to guide our ECE practices with children, families and communities.


Objectives:

• Explore key concepts and characteristics of current concerns and issues around multiculturalism in ECE in the Lower Mainland, BC.

• Continue to develop understanding and capacity for engaging and advocating multiculturalism for inclusive ECE practices.


Presenter: Koichi Haseyama. Koichi is a PhD candidate with a specialization in educational sociolinguistics at SFU. During his entrepreneurship and administration of an international preschool, he gained his Master’s degree in Teaching English to Young Learners at the University of York, in the UK. As an adjunct instructor at SFU, UBC, and other foreign post-secondary institutions, he has been teaching in various areas including Global Early Childhood Education and Care
